On 3 March 2021, the German government has issued a draft law on “Business due diligence for the avoidance of human rights violations in the supply chain”. The draft law, that is expected to be voted on by Parliament before summer, establishes due diligence obligations of German companies with regard to human rights and the environment. It is expected to enter into force in 2023 for companies based in Germany with more than 3000 employees globally (and as from 2024 will also apply to companies with more than 1000 employees).
